On 7 May 2022, the Miss Tembisa Pageant hosted their annual Fitness Bootcamp at Trendsetter Youth Foundation Art Centre in Ebony Park. The activities included Yoga, a workout session, and a motivational talk session by a social worker.
The event kicked off with a Yoga session by Elby Theka. It was a beautiful session that also encouraged the importance of taking time for one’s mental health and being aware of your surroundings. This was followed by a talk session by social worker Aaron Phatlane, who highlighted the importance of safety for women and issues associated with mental health and gender-based violence. Straight after this was a workout session by Reneilwe Kgengwe aka ‘RK Fitness’. This was an intense but beneficial session as everyone was sweating throughout.
The Bootcamp was open to the public through tickets sold by semi-finalists as one of their tasks. The Miss Tembisa Pageant looks beyond the event being about fitness and raising funds but more people being aware of the importance of their physical and mental well-being. This was also an opportunity for people to engage with Miss Tembisa’s 2022 semi-finalists.
The event closed off with a raffle session that saw participants winning different prizes. The big prize winners took home a gym mat, gym wheel, dumbbells and skipping rope.
The Miss Tembisa Pageant looks forward to hosting more Bootcamp events and also hopes to get more participation from community members.
